R. Bailey Bond
R. Bailey Bond, Ph.D.
Fueled by a passion for pushing the boundaries of civil engineering, Bailey thrives on integrating cutting-edge technologies like machine learning to develop creative solutions. His fascination with forensic engineering stems from its dynamic challenges and the space it offers to blend innovation with problem-solving.
Bailey earned his PhD and MS in Civil and Environmental Engineering from Northeastern University, following a bachelor’s in Architectural Engineering at The University of Texas at Austin. His research explored self-centering cross-laminated timber, shear stud strength in composite decks, and the integration of machine learning with structural resilience against earthquake hazards. His main dissertation project developed a new approach that combined physics with machine learning to better predict how buildings respond to earthquakes. In addition to his research, Bailey has hands-on experience in structural design and design review across various construction projects - bridging the gap between theory and practice.
Outside of work, Bailey is always up to something different - whether it’s trying a new workout class, swimming, or finding the best local food spots. He likes to unwind with indie films, 80’s music, and a great home-cooked meal.
