Graduate/Staff Engineer (Entry-Level)

Job Summary: Graduate and Staff Engineers work with other engineers at Pivot to solve structural problems for our clients. The breadth and depth of expertise of Pivot’s industry-leading engineers provides an environment that balances challenging work with constant learning opportunities. Day-to-day tasks include:

  • Document review: Reviewing and understanding important documents such as drawings, specifications, industry literature, communications, etc. in order to evaluate or understand what might be causing structural distress.

  • Field investigation: Traveling to the structure to observe and assess problems we are hired to resolve. This often includes documentation of the problem, testing (including nondestructive testing) to determine in-place properties, and may include data acquisition, structural monitoring, and other unique applications.

  • Structural analysis: Performing structural analysis to evaluate structural behavior. Includes hand calculations, development and analysis of finite element models and anything in between.

  • Repair design: Developing means to repair existing structures. Includes calculations, specifications, and drawings. During implementation, this may also include responding to RFI’s, reviewing submittals, and other construction administration activities.

  • Technical writing: Developing written reports summarizing complex structural behavior.

  • Professional development: Attending professional conferences, conventions, and technical committee meetings.

Graduate Engineers and Staff Engineers perform similar roles and are distinguished primarily by their level of education and experience.

Location and Hours: During their initial tenure, Graduate and Staff Engineers must work in the office full-time. Following this, we offer the flexibility of hybrid or remote work during typical hours, but Engineers must reside in the Austin, TX area. Engineers will travel to project sites across the country to perform field investigations. This is a full-time position.

Required Qualifications: A graduate degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) in civil engineering with an emphasis in structural engineering is required. We are looking for 0-3 years of experience in the structural engineering industry.
